Getting from the Longji Rice Terraces to Yangshuo

There are 3 ways to get from the Longji rice terraces to Yangshuo; by public bus, by private car, or by tour bus if you came by tour bus from Yangshuo as well. In 2015 the direct bus route from Dazhai to Yangshuo was cancelled. But there are still a few options to get to Yangshuo by bus from either Pingan or Dazhai with a stop in the Guilin train station from where there are regular buses leaving to Yangshuo. You could also try and get a seat on the daily tour bus leaving the entrance gate of the rice terraces (easily accessible from both Pingan and Dazhai per local bus) at around 15:30 back to Yangshuo however they generally require to be reserved in advance but often there are available seats left and you can get a good deal in getting back directly to Yangshuo. Prices will depend on the driver and guide aboard and can range from 80-150¥, haggle well. Alternatively, you can opt for a private car from Dazhai or Pingan which cuts the length of the journey and leaves you the freedom to choose the time you would like to leave from the rice terraces and the arrival time of your preference in Yangshuo yourself. Traveling as a family or a group of friends this is quite an affordable option and you could even include a transfer to/from Guilin centre or Guilin airport from/to the Longsheng rice terraces, with an overnight at either Dazhai or Pingan as well. Prices for the detour passed Guilin centre or Guilin airport don’t differ much from a return transfer between Yangshuo and Longsheng.

From Dazhai/Pingan to Yangshuo/Guilin by bus:

While the direct bus from Dazhai to Yangshuo is cancelled, there are still buses from Dazhai to the Guilin train station leaving 6 times a day which are, of June 2015: 09:00 – 10:30 – 12:00 – 13:30 – 15:00 – 17:00. The ride takes about 2.5-3 hrs and costs 50¥ while buses from Guilin train station to Yangshuo are regular (every half an hour) and generally take about 1.5 hour, priced at 25¥ (2016). The total length of the journey per bus could be anywhere between 4.5 to 5.5 hours depending on the waiting time in Guilin centre to catch the bus to Yangshuo.

Outside these times, or if you are coming from Pingan, there are local buses that run frequently between the village centres of Dazhai or Pingan and the entrance gate of the Longsheng rice terraces. Tickets cost about 15¥ per person for the 40 minutes transfer. From that entrance gate, at Heping, there are regular buses and mini-vans available that will take you to the centre of Guilin train or bus station (2.5 hours) where you can hop on the bus from Guilin to Yangshuo as well. Including the transfers between Dazhai or Pingan to the entrance gate of the Longji rice terraces and the stop-over in Guilin you would arrive in Yangshuo after about 5 to 6 hours.

Getting There: Public bus.
Times/Duration: Transfer Dazhai/Pingan – Guilin 2.5-3.5 hrs / to Yangshuo + 1.5 hr.
Pricing: 50¥ + 25¥

From Dazhai / Pingan to Yangshuo / Guilin by Private Transportation

The most convenient way to get from the rice terraces is by private transportation. This cuts down the travel journey to either 2-2.5 hrs (Guilin) or 3-3.5 hrs (Yangshuo) without stops needed at the entrance gate, the long hair village and Guilin with the additional advantage that it would take you directly to your hostel or hotel skipping the Yangshuo bus station too. You could then leave as early as you want, apart from the day tourists visiting the area, and enjoy the scenery and authenticity of the area until after they have all left.

If you would be coming from Guilin and plan to visit the Longsheng rice terraces before coming to Yangshuo the driver could wait for you there and take you further to Yangshuo the same day or a day later as well. Your driver could then spend the day and/or night in Dazhai or Pingan while you enjoy the scenery and minority villages for 1.5 or 2 full days.

To take full advantage of the area in a most convenient way you would not need to stay overnight in Guilin (Yangshuo has so much more to offer) and you can take a taxi directly from the Guilin airport or train station to either Dazhai or Pingan, explore the villages and spend the night near one of the viewpoints and still have time to explore the scenic spots around the villages or do the hike between Dazhai and Pingan the next day (you can be dropped off in Dazhai and pick up in Pingan or vice versa too!) and continue to Yangshuo in the evening.

Prices for all private direct transfers from the Longsheng terraces to Guilin and Yangshuo are listed in our booking widget below. The vehicles we use are reliable and comfortable, air-conditioned, primarily used for tourism (not the local transportation cars) and drivers are licensed to take foreign passengers too. Note that drivers in Guilin or Longsheng are not familiar with anything outside of the gas or bus station in Yangshuo and as a consequence, travellers often get dropped off outside of the center and can’t know at that point they will need another – not easy to find – taxi to the center or their accommodation in Yangshuo. An extra reason to have these transfers organised from Yangshuo.

Please note that since the creation of the new Yulong river park in September 2017, there are no direct transfers to/from the majority of accommodations located near the Yulong river possible. Everyone entering the park will need to get off at one of the entry gates and buy a ticket for the public shuttle buses to get near their accommodation there. Please read this post to make a well informed decision about the consequences before choosing your accommodation in Yangshuo.

From Pingan or Dazhai to Guilin Airport

Unfortunately, as of 2016, there are no direct connections between either Dazhai or Pingan and the Guilin airport. The best alternatives are either hiring private transportation or pass through Guilin and catch one of the regular buses from Guilin to the Guilin airport.

To find and book the right accommodation in Dazhai village can be a challenge, few hotels have an own website and if they have an email address, they may not be consistently monitored. To ease this search for you we have been exploring the Dragon Backbone rice terraces many times to find the best blend of a convenient location, great views, clean environment, private and attached bathroom, 24h hot water, soft beds, western toilets, air-conditioning, English menu or English speaking staff. Our findings are listed on our accommodation in Dazhai page.

  1. Good morning

We are a couple planning our travel to China, and we want to spend two nights in Yangshuo (no hotel selected yet).
Looking your suggestions to visit the rice terraces , I have to say that they are pretty interesting.

Our idea is leaving Yangshuo and catch a plane at 18.30 h. at Guilin airport to go to another city. Could it be possible to visit the rice terraces in our way from Yangshuo to Guilin airport? We don´t mind getting up early, and I assume that private taxi could be the only way to do it.

    Thank you for the answer.

      Hi there,

There’s a bus that leaves early in the morning 07:30 to go to the Longji rice terraces but if your flight leaves at 18:30 I guess you need to be at the airport at 17:30 or sooner. So perhaps a very early private taxi would be best. You’ll be on the road for about 6 hours in total, 3.5 there and 2.5 to the airport.

I can help you arrange a private taxi for the day to look after you and your luggage whilst you take in the rice terraces and the villages of Pingan or Dazhai. Just let me know via email if you would like me to help you with this, info@yangshuo-insider.com

      All the best

  2. Hello,

we want to come to Dazhai from Yangshuo. I read that there is a direct bus every morning at 7h30 to Ping An. Does that bus go also to Dazhai ?

Also, from Dazhai we’d need to go to Guilin to catch a train. Are there direct buses to Guilin ?

Thank you for your help and have a great day,

    Francois

      Hi Francois,

There is a tour bus that goes to PingAn and DaZhai it leaves at 7am. I’m not sure about the local buses from DaZhai to GuiLin we always recommend a private car.

I’ll email you directly with prices,

      All the best
